A small knife with a curved blade that's serrated on both sides. It's used to separate the flesh from the rind and membrane.
To cut lines into the surface of foods (e.g. meat, fish), usually in a diamond pattern. This is done to help foods absorb more flavors, cook faster and more evenly, as well as for appearance.
In general, the word sugar refers to sucrose - specifically in its relatively pure form extracted from sugar cane or sugar beets. When used in the context of nutrition, sugar is used to refer to any monosaccharide (e.g. glucose, fructose) or disaccharide (e.g. sucrose, lactose). See granulated sugar.
Also called queso fresco, this is a white, mild, fresh Mexican cheese with a creamy and soft texture. It's often used as a topping for salads and other dishes.
